Central to the Living Country system is that our primary cultural and custodial role is to care for Country (our Mother). The traditional custodians of this land continue to maintain strong connections to their cultural traditions, belief systems, and practices.

However, to truly practice, protect, and share this culture on traditional lands, fundamental infrastructure is urgently needed. Currently, the community lacks reliable access to secure water, off-grid power, and safe sanitation.

To ensure our community, language, and culture not only survive but thrive, foundational infrastructure on Country is essential. Clean water, renewable energy, and ecological protections will create the conditions for the community to prosper—enabling land-based economic self-determination, cultural tourism, and the protection of native ecosystems.

Living Country is seeking support to provide critical off-grid power, safe water, sanitation, and ecological infrastructure—a vital, community-led initiative for better health, wellbeing, and environmental stewardship.

Working directly with cultural leaders, local skilled workers, and industry experts, the project will deliver:

Community-informed water infrastructure (Bore drilling, pumps, and water catchment)

Sanitation solutions that support health, safety, and dignity—particularly for women, children, and our elderly

Sustainable off-grid power tailored to local conditions

Ecological protections to secure sacred spaces and support native wildlife

Project Summary / Problem to Solve

There is currently no reliable clean water source, secure sanitation system, or sustainable off-grid power to support community residents, cultural learning environments, or eco-tourism initiatives. Furthermore, native wildlife requires vital water catchments to survive the changing climate, and sensitive lands require protective fencing.

These gaps present daily challenges to health, cultural programming, environmental biodiversity, and economic opportunity.

The Living Country Water & Care Project will focus on – Bore Drilling and Casing - Pump and associated components. It also includes – Solar Panels – Battery Storage and Inverters.

To create an Alternative Learning Centre where students reconnect with learning through practical education, Indigenous knowledge and hands-on experiences.

The precinct will become a living classroom where Community, Culture and Country come together to develop confidence, practical skills and pathways to employment.

The project will support food sovereignty by empowering students to grow, harvest and prepare healthy food while learning about sustainable agriculture, environmental care and traditional knowledge.

Working alongside Elders, Traditional Owners, teachers, volunteers and industry partners, students will gain real-world experience in horticulture, land management, construction and teamwork.

Murgon State High School - Top Farm Concept will focus on Plant and tools required to carry out construction, repair and landscaping works across the precinct. - Mini excavator, - Skid steer/bobcat, - Plate compactor, - Concrete mixer, - Tipper trailer, - Post.
